Her story

Corine began writing at six, when her uncle gave her a manual Smith Corona to keep her out of his hair. After a professional tennis career failed to materialize, she earned a BA from New Mexico State University, traveled, and took a detour into law.

A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law, Corine clerked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. She went on to practice criminal defense and domestic relations law, litigating contested cases but never having to cross-examine anyone over custody of the family dog.

Raised in the Chicago area, Corine now writes the Jessica Mackey mysteries, drawing on her legal career to give her attorney protagonist a sharp tongue and plenty of trouble. Death We Parted is her debut novel. The second book, Neon Lies, is coming soon.

In Her Own Words

To me, storytelling is about bringing characters to life, putting them in situations that challenge them, and seeing what happens when their choices collide with the unexpected. I love creating stories filled with mystery, complicated relationships, sharp dialogue, and a few surprises along the way. Most of all, I want readers to become invested in the characters and keep turning the pages to discover what happens next.
